Hi, my name is Rev. Brian Choi and I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. Yes, I am a huge Bengals fan who happens to be in the middle of Steeler country, what can I say; God has a sense of humor. I graduated Hanover College in Hanover Indiana receiving my bachelor of arts in theological studies. Soon I went to Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and graduated with a Masters in Divinity. Then I drove across country to go to school at Claremont Theological Seminary in Claremont, CA and earned a Masters Degree in Old Testament.
Soon after I finished my masters degree at Claremont and headed out to the other side of the pond... not England... the other way... I started working for the department of education in Seoul, South Korea. I met my wife, Eunkyung Kim, we got married, and now we have two beautiful kids. A dancing and singing 5 year old, Norah and a running, bumbling 2 year old, Benjamin. We love living in Altoona, PA. Ben loves the trains, Norah loves the flowers, My wife and I love the mountains. God surely made this place for us!
I am ecumenical in nature. I was ordained as a Presbyterian Pastor, but I grew up Southern Baptist. Some of my most fondest memories happened in the Southern Baptist church I grew up. I graduated from a Presbyterian under grad. and seminary. But my additional masters degree was from a United Methodist affliated school. I have worked in Presbyterian churches, Baptist churches, Southern Baptist churches, Disciple of Christ churches, you name them, I've been there!
Whenever I have any time off you can find me fishing. I love fishing, particularly for largemouth and smallmouth bass, but recently got into trout fishing which has been a total joy. Central PA has some of the countries best trout fishing streams!
I really hope to see some new faces coming to Ward Ave. Presbyterian Church. There are some of the most kind hearted people I have ever met at this church. They are open to new people and new ideas and they can't wait to see you! Come and join us! God bless.
